Counting Calories Doesn't Work - Almost everyone thinks calories are their enemy because devouring too many calories causes fat, correct? So people think that the quickest route to losing weight is by counting calories. So if a person counting calories is eating 3,000 calories a day and then cut back to 1,500 calories a day – then surely the 1,500 less calories have to mean they will lose weight, correct? Not in the real world . . .
Instead, if you reduce your calories too much (by starving yourself or cutting out meals) you'll soon hit a diet "plateau" (where your weight won’t drop down no matter how little you eat). No matter how long you hold out, you won't get any thinner. Why? Because you’ve lost water weight – not fat. … when you starve yourself you start burning less calories every day. The fact is that “serious” weight loss can’t be done through starvation dieting. Serious weight loss can only be achieved by giving your body the right types of calories at the correct times each day by shifting calories, not by counting calories.
